Mission and Tenets

Since the early 1970s, the heads of Choate Rosemary Hall, Deerfield Academy, Hotchkiss, Lawrenceville School, Northfield Mount Hermon, Phillips Academy Andover, Phillips Exeter Academy and St. Paul’s School have met regularly to discuss educational issues of common interest.  In 2007, the group agreed to a more formal and focused structure.  Accordingly, they formed the Eight Schools Association.  The Association's mission statement includes the following purposes: “The organization shall be devoted to the exploration of new research and trends in education, and we shall consider together any issues and challenges common to the schools and their students and faculty.  The organization shall develop collaborative programs and may from time to time take positions on various educational issues.”

  1. To promote greater interaction among faculties, students and staff, with cooperation in the form of arts and athletic events, student conferences, faculty seminars and meetings, shared policies and services, data collection, and summer and international programs.

  2. To advance and improve the education field in learning and teaching, innovative pedagogies, collaboration, and boarding schools.

  3. To address, discuss, and determine potential solutions to common challenges unique to the schools.

  4. To provide opportunities to enhance professional development.
